Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Nude Lip

February 11, 2016

I'm going to start this post off with a big fat apology, because it seems as though Sephora doesn't have this set anymore. I'll be periodically checking Sephora's website to see if it comes back, and if it does, I'll edit this post to include the link. But I figured since everything included in the set can be purchased separately (ie there are no exclusive shades or anything), it would still be helpful to do a mini review of every product included. When I first saw the Give Me Some Nude Lip set I snapped it up right away. I think even if you've only caught one or two of my posts you'd know nude lips are kind of my thang.

The set was an amazing deal, being only $28. In it comes a full size NARS Lipstick in Dolce Vita ($28), a full size Nudestix Lip + Cheek Pencil in Whisper ($24), and minis of the Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint (full size $20), Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Colour in Milky Way (full size $28), and the Marc Jacobs Poutliner Longwear Lip Liner Pencil in Prim(rose) (full size $24). So really, you're buying the NARS lipstick and getting everything else for free. I told you it was an amazing deal. I even already have the full sizes of the Marc Jacobs lipliner and the Laura Mercier lipstick in those same shades, but I couldn't pass this set up.

I'll start by saying that these nudes are a little bit lighter than I'd typically wear. For comparison, my typical "nude" shade in the Nudestix pencil is Mystic, which is a tad darker than Whisper. Still, none of these make me look dead - their tones are spot on, so I don't feel uncomfortable with any colors in the slightest. It's a bonus that the lip liner is a bit darker, so it adds a bit of dimension and deepens the shades a little when worn underneath them.

I've spoken about my love for the Marc Jacobs Lip Pencil before - Prim(rose) is pretty much the best ever "my lips but better" shade for me. When I went to the Bite Beauty Lip Lab in December, I even brought it with me to make a shade that matched. It's got a really lovely creamy formula, so it doesn't feel as drying on the lips as, say, a MAC one would, but it somehow majorly outlasts any other lip pencil I've tried. I think it's magic or something.

I was pleasantly surprised with the Tarte Lip Paint. I had heard some not so great reviews, but I really like it. It has one of those light, mousse-y formulas, kind of like the Nyx Soft Matte Lip Creams. It also feels nice and minty on the lips. It doesn't fully set so while it won't last you all day long like some other liquid lipsticks, it also doesn't make your lips uncomfortably dry. I found that on me, it only wore off when I was eating, so I don't have a problem reapplying after that. And since it doesn't fully set, you will get some transfer, but because of the lightweight formula, it's nothing too messy. I really want to get my hands on a couple more shades - I've got my eye on Tbt and Hangry.

I've also gone on about my love of the Laura Mercier lipstick in Milky Way - purchasing it sparked my Brown Lip Edit. It's the prettiest brown with a little bit of a cool tone, so it makes for a really unique color. I love layering it over a more pink lipliner, like the Marc Jacobs one.

I'm a huge fan of Nudestix. The pencils are handy, oh-so-creamy, and yet they stay put. Whisper is an absolutely gorgeous nude shade that's not too pink but not too brown. It's actually a very similar color to my lips already. I've been loving layering it with the Mystic shade - putting Mystic all over and then applying Whisper to the center of my lips for a little bit of ombre action.

Last but not least is the b-e-a-utiful NARS Dolce Vita. I've actually had this sitting on the wishlist note I have on my phone for the longest time. It's a lot more sheer than I was expecting, but I love a good sheer lipstick - they're more wearable to me. It leaves the prettiest tinge of dusty rose to the lips that goes with absolutely anything. I'll definitely be breaking this one out for my Valentine's Day makeup.

Did you get the chance to grab this set? What's your favorite nude lip product?

The Rose Edit

February 09, 2016 in Skincare

Do you ever look through your collection and pick up on themes? Recently I noticed I have an awful lot of products with rose in the name or containing some form of roses. A surefire way of making me buy a product? Put rose in it.

Because of its ability to soothe and calm the skin, rose/rosewater shows up over and over again in my skincare. One of the newest additions is the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser, which showed up in my January Favorites. They replaced a quarter of the water content with rosewater, making it an extra soothing treat at the end of the day. My skin has been so incredibly hydrated since I started using this cleanser - it's legitimately the only one I've tried that doesn't leave me with an ounce of tightness in my skin after washing it off.

The "rose" marketing really pulled me in on the Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay - it doesn't even have real rose in there, but the pretty pink packaging and the mention of rose got me. Rose clay has got to be more gentle and good for the skin than regular clay, right? This is by far one of my favorite clay masks because, again, it doesn't dry my face out like other ones. If you've got dry skin but still want the benefits of a clay mask, try this one.

The other mask I've got to mention, however, is jam-packed with roses. The Fresh Rose Face Mask is just a thing of beauty, especially in that limited edition packaging that came out last summer. It contains 50% pure rosewater along with an average of two and a half roses in every jar. It just instantly calms down any angry or stressed skin and gives it a beautifully hydrated, supple feel. Sensing a theme here?

Another popular place to stick roses is in a face mist. I use the Glossier Soothing Face Mist and the Herbivore Botanicals Rose Hibiscus Coconut Water Hydrating Face Mist interchangeably - they both feel quite similar on the skin and feel really nice to perk up the complexion in the morning or to wind down after a long day.

The newest addition to my rose obsession is the Pixi Rose Oil Blend. I mentioned this in my Beauty Haul - the second I had some extra money to spend, I dropped it on this. It's got rosehip, sweet almond, jojoba, pomegranate seed, and rose geranium oils in it, and it feels absolutely divine. My skin is given and instant glow and is plumped up and rejuvenated.

I've got lots of lipsticks and other lip products that are made to look like the color of a rose, but two standouts come from Fresh and Korres. I've spoken about my love for the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments many times before, and their Rose shade doesn't disappoint. It's more sheer than my beloved Petal, but it gives a soft flush to the lips that's super flattering. I don't know why I don't talk about the Korres Lip Butters more often, because they're one of my favorite lip products. The shade Wild Rose is a really lovely sheer deep red that, again, adds a nice flush to your pout all the while nourishing and hydrating your lips. Bonus points in that it smells like roses, too.

Drugstore/Affordable Favorites

February 06, 2016 in Makeup

I'll always be the first to admit I'm a bit of a beauty snob - while some people spend their life savings collecting things like limited edition Pez dispensers, I collect high end makeup. Is that such a crime? I do a lot of blabbing about my favorite high end products, but there really are some true affordable gems I've found that I don't talk about enough. So today, I'm here to change that.

I mentioned in my Beauty Haul that I had picked up the L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion foundation, and I'm already head over heels in love. It's been awhile since I've fallen for a drugstore base, but this one's been ticking all the boxes. Lightweight? Check. Dewy? Check. I'm all over it.

Speaking of base products, I'm sure you know by now what a fan I am of the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser. The sponge grosses me out a little, but it's always the first product I reach for when I've got dark circles to cover up. The formula is super thin and yet creamy, so it doesn't settle into the fine lines under my eyes or cake up and get dry. I'm definitely going to be picking another one of these up soon.

The last affordable face product I can't get enough of is the Soap & Glory Solar Powder. I think it's ridiculous that we can't get Soap & Glory's makeup in the US - I'm dying to try more from them. The Solar Powder is the perfect bronzer if you've got paler skin. I love that there's two shades in the pan to swirl together and customize the color you get.

Moving on to eyes, my favorite affordable eyeshadows come from Colourpop. The mousse-y sponge-y formula makes for the perfect texture for an eyeshadow. They apply so easily with a finger, and you can't feel them on your lids at all. And, with a primer, they don't crease on my hideously oily eyelids. They have so many shades to choose from, but my absolute favorite is Hanky Panky, a simple neutral taupe.

For liner, I've been exclusively reaching for the Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Eyeliner in Brown. I love these eyeliners and really think they're a good dupe for the Urban Decay Eyeliners (although they don't come in as many cool colors). I tightline and line my upper lashline with this every morning, and it never smudges. But it does go on creamily enough to not tug at my eyes.

For mascara, I'm sure you'll know I'm absolutely in love with the Maybelline Full 'N Soft Waterproof Mascara. It's probably my favorite of all time. It gives the perfect amount of definition and fluffy volume for every day, and easily layers up for more drama. I'm sure I sound like a broken record with this one, so I'll leave it there.

Lip products are the things I buy most from the drugstore - I think it's the category that is the easiest to get right. For liner, I absolutely love the Milani Color Statement Lipliner in All Natural as it's just the perfect nude, and the Nyx Slim Lip Pencil in Mauve - a dupe for MAC Soar. Both pencils are nice and creamy for a wooden pencil formula and have great longevity. I'm also obsessed with the Revlon Balm Stains - the sheer colors really do something for me. I've got Adore, a lovely more neutral-toned red, and Honey, a perfect cool nude for every day. If I'm looking for a gloss I'll always reach for the Nyx Butter Gloss in Angel Food Cake. These have a beautiful formula - they're a creamy gloss rather than a sticky one, so they feel moisturizing on the lips and still last a long time. Angel Food Cake is the perfect browny-pink nude. The last lip product I'll mention here is the Colourpop Lippie Stix. These have an absolutely amazing formula, akin to a high end lipstick. They come in many finishes, but my favorites are the mattes - they're super creamy and never drying. My all-time favorite shade is Lumiere (so I definitely need the new liquid lipstick version they just came out with).

What are your favorite affordable products?
