Jouer Fall 2016 Lip Cremes - Review & Swatches

October 04, 2016

I first reviewed the Jouer Long-Wear Lip Creme Liquid Lipsticks a few months ago, and they've since become my absolute favorites. The formula is just the best. They're some of the most comfortable on the lips that I've tried, and they somehow still last such a long time. They start to fade when eating something greasy of course, but even then they don't smear all over the place. They never get thick or crumbly on the lips, and they layer nicely - this is a plus because you don't have to remove the entire thing to reapply, and it's also great because you can layer the metallic ones over the matte ones. I was so grateful to have been sent their new Lip Creme shades that came out for fall as well as their new Lip Topper, and they've impressed once again.

The shades look glossier here than they normally would because I took the pictures while the lip cremes were still wet to try to not kill my lips!

Buff - a matte peachy nude. This is the one shade from the collection that I can't see myself wearing - it's just too pale for my liking. This one took a little extra work to make it opaque and not streaky, but it really was the only shade with this problem.

Filigree - a metallic champagne. It's got a lovely taupe shade to it that keeps it looking neutral while being a metallic. This one also lets the natural lip shade shine through - it's not totally opaque, but it's not streaky.

Terra - a matte warm neutral shade. This one reminds me a lot of MAC Velvet Teddy. It's not too pink, and not too brown - just the perfect neutral for fall.

Tawny Rose - a matte cool dusty mauve. This one is my favorite of them all, which I'm not surprised by. It's quite similar to Terra but with slightly cooler undertones - you can get away with just getting one or the other (if you prefer warm shades, go for Terra, and for cool shades, pick Tawny Rose).

Snapdragon - a metallic cool plum. This one is just stunning. It's beautifully opaque and not streaky. It reminds me of a more intensely frosted version of MAC Syrup - it's actually a lot more wearable than I thought it would be, and it's probably my second favorite after Tawny Rose.

Penny - a metallic warm copper. I think this is a little too warm for my skintone, but if you're looking for a copper lip, look no further. This one is perfect.

Bronze Rose - a metallic cool deep rose. Ok, maybe this one is my favorite! It's such a beautiful neutral shade, and the shimmer helps make the lips look fuller. I'm going to try mixing this one with Praline from their original shades, and I'll report back!

Dahlia - a cool electric plum. It has some shimmer in it with a slight blue shift, but it's not as much as the other metallic shades. This is quite an "out-there" shade for me, so my brain tells me it looks weird, but I think it's still flattering. It actually reminds me a lot of MAC Rebel and is a perfect plum shade for fall.

Cabernet - a matte cool deep red. This one is showing up a lot lighter in the picture than it is in person. This is just my perfect red. I'm tempted to just get rid of all other red liquid lipsticks because this is all I need.

Brique - a matte warm brick red. Ok, I spoke too soon. This is a perfect 90s red as it's got a bit of a brown tone to it. Warm reds usually don't suit me, but I think that bit of dusty brown to it makes it more wearable, and it's one I can see myself wearing a lot in the fall. Maybe because it looks like autumn leaves!

Tan Lines Lip Topper - the new shade, a metallic shimmering bronze. I'm completely blown away by this formula - it's not a liquid lipstick, yet it's not a gloss. It's more like a velvety balm. It adds the nicest warm bronze over top of any lipstick. In the last two lip swatches above, I've added it on top of Brique, and then the last photo is the lip topper on my bare lips. It's lovely either way. Now I'm tempted to buy the Skinny Dip shade!

Top to Bottom: Tan Lines, Buff, Filigree, Terra, Tawny Rose, Bronze Rose, Penny, Brique, Snapdragon, Dahlia, Cabernet

I'm so pleased with almost all of the new shades, and I'd highly recommend any of Jouer's liquid lipsticks if you're looking for some new ones to try. Like I said above, the formula is the best I've tried!

Have you tried Jouer's liquid lipsticks before? What fall shade are you most excited for?

Thank you so much to Jouer for sending me their new fall shades to try! All opinions are of course my own. Please see my disclaimer for more information.

September Favorites

October 01, 2016 in Makeup, Skincare

This month has been all about the skin for me. At the beginning of the month my skin threw a bit of a tantrum, so all of my favorites this month were things I was using to get it looking back to its normal self.

The product release I was most excited about this month was Glossier's take on serums, The Supers* (review). I've been using all three in my daily skincare routines, and I've been loving what they're doing for my skin. I use Super Glow each morning followed by a little bit of Super Bounce to get my skin looking awake and plumped and ready for makeup. And at night, I've been using the Super Pure again followed by Super Bounce. I think the Super Pure (niacinamide & zinc) really helped soothe my skin and shrink my breakouts - it might be my favorite of the three. If you want to pick up The Supers or anything else from Glossier, you can go to glossier.com/reps/kelsey to get 20% off your first order (details here)!

The other skincare bit I've been loving this month has been the L'Oreal Pure Clay Detox & Brighten Mask. I've been pleasantly surprised with this one - it's thicker and creamier than any charcoal mask I've tried, so it's able to thoroughly purify my skin without making it feel dry, chalky, or tight. I definitely prefer this to the Origins charcoal mask!

To take care of my dark circles this month I've been relying on the Onomie Bright Concealing Elixir* (review). It's a skincare-makeup hybrid that not only covers dark circles, but works to eliminate them over time. Despite being a lightweight, creamy consistency, it does a really good job of covering the darkness under my eyes. And it doesn't get dry or cakey, and it doesn't crease.

To conceal the rest of the blemishes and redness on my face, I've been going for the combination of the Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluid in Yellow and the Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer (review). The duo really helps to correct the redness in my skin and give it one even tone without looking like I'm caked in makeup - it works well on both minimal makeup days and on days when I'm wanting to zhush it up a little.

The last skin bit I've been relying on this month has been the Dior Diorskin Nude Skin-Glowing Makeup. I re-discovered this in my collection this month and fell in love all over again. It's such a beautiful foundation - it gives a medium coverage that I tend to sheer out a little, and it sets to a skin-like finish. It's not dewy nor matte, but somewhere in between. It lets the skin's natural luminosity shine through without feeling greasy or tacky.

Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette

September 29, 2016 in Makeup

You probably all know by now how I get around hyped-up products. Some of the most hyped-up products in the beauty world are the infamous Urban Decay Naked palettes - when I heard of a new one being released, as well as the fact that it was an all-matte palette, I knew I needed it. I probably have enough eyeshadow to last me a lifetime, but I just couldn't resist. Enter the Naked Ultimate Basics Palette.

I used to have the Naked2 and Naked3 palettes, but I've since passed them on to more loving homes - I found myself passing over them because I just wasn't feeling the super shimmery shadows anymore. As I've figured out my makeup "aesthetic" as time has gone on, I've found that I much prefer mattes over shimmers on my eyes. They just look more sophisticated, classic, and effortless to me. Getting rid of my Naked palettes certainly left a void in my collection, so I thought it was fate when this matte palette was released. You get 12 shades just like in all the other Naked palettes - 1 demi-matte shade and 11 mattes. And this time, all the shades included are entirely new. There's a mixture of both warm and cool neutrals, so I think the palette will suit many different skintones and preferences. I like how this palette is different than the previous Naked palettes in that it's a square shape rather than a long rectangle - I think it makes it easier for traveling as the mirror is much larger.

R to L/Top to Bottom: Blow, Nudie, Commando, Tempted, Instinct, Lethal

R to L: Pre-Game, Extra Bitter, Faith, Lockout, Magnet, Blackjack

The palette is full of super pretty neutrals, from the cooler-toned plummy ones of the top row to the warmer burnt oranges of the bottom. The shadows live up to the usual high quality of Urban Decay - they're creamy and incredibly pigmented. The darker shades, especially Blackjack, are a little powdery, but they still apply nicely to the eyes without becoming patchy. My favorite look so far has been using most of the shades in the top row, as I love me a plummy nude eye, but I also can't wait to try some warmer looks using the shades in the bottom row (how dreamy does Extra Bitter look though?). They last incredibly well without fading or creasing on me too when I use a primer - my makeup is on for upwards of twelve hours a day during the week, and my eyeshadow will look the same when I wash it off as it did in the morning when I applied it. For me, that's pretty impressive. Now that I have this in my collection (as well as ABH Modern Renaissance - check out my review), I've been able to go through my unreasonably large palette collection and pass on a few to friends and family. Now that's the sign of a good palette.

Have you tried the Naked Ultimate Basics Palette yet, or are you over the Naked palette hype?
