Glossier Invisible Shield is Here!

May 10, 2017 in Skincare

The moment we've all been waiting for (for 2 years!) is finally here - Glossier has officially launched their everyday sunscreen, Invisible Shield. I'm sure everyone has heard how important it is to protect your skin from the sun and other aggressors every day, but how many of us actually do? I'll admit I would only wear sunscreen if I planned on being out and about - since there's not much daylight where I work, I tended to just forget about it on a day to day basis. Plus I could never find a sunscreen I liked that didn't make me too greasy or chalky. But Invisible Shield is here to solve all those problems.

Glossier Invisible Shield is a lightweight, clear (!!) serum sunscreen with SPF 35. It not only protects against the sun, but also against pollution. The secret to this formula is microcapsule technology - tiny spheres packed full of UVA and UVB filters burst upon application, helping to preserve the ingredients from degradation while in the bottle.  This is a chemical sunscreen (this formula would be pretty much impossible using physical blockers), but fear not - it feels super gentle on the skin, and I haven't had any irritation issues with it. The formula also fights free radicals with a powerful antioxidant complex of Vitamin E, Vitamin P, Broccoli, and Aloe Leaf Extracts, and it keeps out harmful pollution particles (which are 20x smaller than your pores!) using a fermented yeast and vegetal extract matrix. It manages to pack all these ingredients into a lightweight gel formula with no damaging alcohol as well.

Each purchase will come with the Zine pictured, filled with facts about the damage your skin can face from the sun and pollution. Did you know the windows in your car only filter UVB rays, but not UVA rays? UVB rays are the ones that cause sunburns, but UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin and cause premature aging, and in extreme cases, skin cancer. And did you know your skin is still susceptible to damage when in front of the computer? A study conducted by Unilever Skincare Research showed that four days in front of the computer is equally as damaging to your skin as 20 minutes in direct afternoon sunlight. So protect yourself, even in the office.

I've been using the Invisible Shield every single day since I got it, and it's truly become just another part of my routine. It's so easy to apply and spread over the skin, so adding this extra step doesn't slow me down in the mornings. It has a super light, citrus-y scent (with just the faintest hint of a sunscreen smell) that is great in the mornings, too. The Invisible Shield should be applied after moisturizer and before any makeup. It immediately sinks into the skin just like water would, and it leaves such a smooth finish that's perfect for putting makeup on top. It doesn't leave a whitecast whatsoever, and you really cannot feel it on the skin at all. I've never used a sunscreen that works so well with makeup - there's no pilling or caking here.

The most important thing here is that you need to protect your skin. No matter what brand of sunscreen you prefer, you really should be using one daily. If you've had a hard time finding a good formula that doesn't disrupt your normal morning routine, then Glossier Invisible Shield could be the one you've been waiting for.

Invisible Shield is available on Glossier starting today, $34 for 1 fl oz/30 mL. You can also shop through my rep page for 10% off!

Have safe sun, guys.

*Invisible Shield was sent to me early to share with all of you, but all opinions, as always, are my own.

Loving Lately

May 09, 2017 in Makeup, Skincare

This post was meant to go up last week, but I ended up not being able to schedule posts before going to New York with Glossier at the end of last week. So although the sentiment is a little late, I've still been absolutely loving all the products I'm about to mention. It's all a bit pink-themed for the most part, which is pretty much the story of my life nowadays.

*Milk Makeup Holographic Stick, 'Mars' | I've been a huge fan of the original Holographic Stick in Supernova, the iridescent lilac shade, but I'm over the moon for its new peachy-pink duochrome sister. If you've got warmer undertones in your skin, then this is the Holographic Stick for you. It's so beautiful, and the formula is just as lovely and blendable as the original. It's just a bit more subtle than the original, but just because you'd maybe expect a peachy-pink sheen on the skin rather than a lavender.

Kypris Antioxidant Dew | I had been wanting to try Kypris Beauty for such a long time, so I finally bit the bullet and picked up the Antioxidant Dew when Anthropologie was having a sale. I'm so happy with it so far - it's really hydrating and leaves my skin super glowy. I like adding a drop of rosehip oil or hyaluronic acid serum to give it a little kick. This has been my morning serum of choice almost every day since I got it.

*Glossier Cloud Paint, 'Haze' | The Cloud Paints are pretty much my favorite blushes ever, but recently the shade Haze has risen to the top as my most-used. It's the darkest shade, but it sheers out so easily and makes a believable-looking flush on my super pale skin without being over the top. This has really helped me look healthy and awake - I get less comments that I look tired when I'm wearing this. You can get Cloud Paint or any other Glossier products for 20% off here.

NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadow, 'Rigel' | I've mentioned that I've recently been getting back into using eyeshadow again, and this beauty from NARS is one I reach for a lot. It's a beautiful rose gold shade that doesn't read too copper-y on me, and it really helps brighten my eyes. It looks lovely both as an all-over lid shade and as an inner corner highlight. The Dual Intensity Eyeshadows are some of my favorites, too.

*KNC Beauty All Natural Collagen-Infused Lip Masks | I've fallen in love with lip masks lately, and these babies from KNC Beauty have quickly become my favorites. I'm always wary of trying new lip treatments because my lips tend to be reactive, but these haven't given me any problems. These tingle a little bit as you're wearing them to let you know they're working, and they really do enhance the look of your lips. These leave my lips super soft and hydrated, and I love using them before I do my makeup for a more special occasion.

Pink Lip Products | This last section isn't dedicated to one product, but to my newfound love of pink. I'm usually quite the neutrals girl, but lately I've been loving a pop of pink. For a tinted balm, I've been loving the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Bloom* - I think this has surpassed my love for the shade Petal, as it's such a pretty pink shade for spring. When I'm going for a matte look I've been using the Kat Von D Everlasting Lip Liner and Liquid Lipstick, both in the shade Lovecraft. This is one of my favorite shades from her line, so I'm glad I have a matching pair now. I really love these new lip liners - they're super creamy but seriously do not budge. And when I'm wanting a gloss, I've been using the Dior Addict Lip Glow Pomade because it's just oh so chic. This doesn't really tint my lips super pink like the original balm does, but it's such a comfortable gloss that feels super nourishing and looks really pretty in my makeup bag.

What have you been loving lately?

*Products mentioned have been sent to me for consideration, but all opinions are my own. Please see my disclaimer for more information.

Lorac I Love Brunch Pro Palette | Review + Swatches

May 03, 2017 in Makeup

As promised, I've got my review of the Lorac I Love Brunch Pro Palette today. I had been questioning whether or not to get this for weeks, pretty much since the day it launched. I knew I'd theoretically wear the shades, but I had been in such a no-eyeshadow rut that I wasn't sure I'd actually reach for it in real life. I ended up not having to make a decision because my sister surprised me with it a couple weeks ago! I was so excited to finally get my hands on it. Also a quick plug for my sister - she's just as beauty-obsessed as I am, and she's started her own beauty account on Instagram! You can find her at taybeaute1.

Anyway, the Lorac Brunch Palette, as I'm going to call it from now on, is a palette containing sixteen shadows, most of which are pastel matte shades. I normally don't go for any color at all, but the muted tones of the pastels really spoke to me. If you know and love Lorac's eyeshadow formula, then you'll love these, too. They're a little powdery in that they kick up a little bit of dust when you put a brush in the pan, but it's not overly messy, and I haven't had any issues with fallout so far. The shadows are all so soft and smooth, even the lighter mattes - nothing feels chalky in the slightest.

Lavender, Eggs Benny, Gluten Free, Hot Sauce

Jelly Donut, Pancakes, Sorbet, Valet

Bloody Mary, Blueberry Scone, Moonlight, Avocado Toast

Mimosa, Smoothie, French Toast, Sunday Funday

Usually pastel shades are notoriously lacking in pigment, but these are great - you're not going to get a huge whack of color in one go, but it doesn't take layers upon layers to get anything to show up. I'll have to pat on around two layers to get a super bright color, but using one layer gives such a lovely wash of color. They blend so nicely, as I've found with other Lorac shadows I've tried, and it's super easy to create a gradient of color without things going muddy. I'm no expert at all when it comes to eye makeup, but I've been able to create some super cool looks with one color fading into another (I posted a look using Avocado Toast and Blueberry Scone on my Instagram). I love that there are a few neutral shades still included so I don't have to go too far out of my comfort zone and can keep things grounded. They also last throughout the day without creasing or fading - I wasn't expecting pastel shadows to last as long as these do!

Have you tried the Lorac Brunch Palette yet?
