The Summer Makeup Edit | All Dewy All the Time

June 27, 2017 in Makeup

Summer is finally here, and I'm celebrating by making my face as dewy as possible. The grass is always greener, right? This summer I'm going for sheer, glowy products all over for a fresh, "I woke up like this" kind of look.

Glowy base products are a must for me, not just in the summer, but year-round. The Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint is a forever favorite - it smooths over the skin beautifully, has just enough coverage, and leaves a healthy glow to the skin. A budget option (and my favorite cushion foundation I've tried) is the L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion. It's super easy to apply on the go, and like the Glossier Skin Tint, leaves a lovely glow. I've also recently fallen for the Erborian CC Creme.* It's one of those products that comes out as a white lotion but transitions into a more beige-y color as you rub it in. This has more of a skinlike, satin finish, but it's so lightweight and hydrating on the skin that it's still perfect for summer.

My blush goals for summer and basically always is that "just woke up from a nap" flush. I don't have time to nap, I just like to pretend I do. Glossier Cloud Paint* in Beam is one of my favorites for the job - it's the perfect warm peachy pink that actually looks like a natural flush. Even on my cool-toned skin, the peach is ultra-flattering. Sometimes, if I'm feeling my look needs a bit more pink, I'll mix in the Cloud Paint in Puff - mixing makeup has been kind of my thing lately, maybe it's the chemist in me.

Summer and bronzer go hand in hand, and I really amp up my bronzer application when the weather heats up. I live as a vampire and like to fake a little bit of a glow instead of going out in the sun. My top picks for this summer are going to be the BECCA Sunlit Bronzer in Bali Sands and the Guerlain Terracotta Sun Trio. The BECCA bronzer is one of the nicest ones I've ever tried - it appears quite shimmery in the pan, but on the skin it's a beautiful satin finish that leaves you looking radiant. The Guerlain is my favorite matte pick - there's a bronzer, contour, and highlight shade all housed in the compact, but my preferred method of application is swirling all three shades together. This works really well for my cool-toned skin, too.

Highlight is a must for me, especially in the summer. I've strayed from my old love of metallic highlights and have instead been falling for ones that look quite glossy and natural on the skin. I'm drawn to liquids and creams much more than powders these days, too. The Glossier Haloscope in Quartz is pretty much my go-to every day. It gives the most beautiful glossy sheen to the skin that's not overly glittery or shimmery. I also love the Nudestix Nudies All Over Face Color in Illumi-Naughty for another glossy sheen that also has a bit of a pink shift - it's such a cool look. Nudestix seems to do everything so well. To round out my go-to stick highlighters, I've also got the Ilia Illuminator in Polka Dots and Moonbeams. It's even more natural on the skin than the Haloscope, and it really reminds me of the rms Living Luminizer in stick form. The new YSL Touche Eclat Glow Shot is an absolutely beautiful product. It's quite natural and gives a luminous, lit-from-within glow.

As for eyes, I'm really embracing the glossy lid look for summer. My eyelids are super oily anyway, so I'm just going with it. If I want an actual eye gloss, the Milk Makeup Eye Vinyl is easy to apply on the go, isn't too sticky, and doesn't run all over the place. If I'm not going for a gloss, I still like eyeshadows that look a little glossy. The Revlon ColorStay Creme Eyeshadow in Praline is definitely a hidden gem of the drugstore. The shadow does not budge on me, and the shade is absolutely perfect - quite similar to my skin tone, a little rosy, with a glossy-looking sheen. The Nudestix Sheer Color Eye Pencil has a similar finish on the eyes, too. It lasts well, and the shade Pewter is a great taupe-y shade.

Like the rest of my face, I'm going sheer and glossy for lips this summer. The Glossier Lip Gloss is a must of course - a clear gloss goes with anything, and this one is glassy and not goopy. The MAC Crystal Glaze Gloss is a nice gloss option as well - it feels moisturizing rather than sticky, and it works well on the cheeks and eyes too. My other go-tos this summer are going to be the Nudestix Gel Color Lip + Cheek Balm in Pulse, a perfect plummy nude shade, and the Dior Addict Lip Glow. I love this stuff and couldn't go without it.

What are your picks for this summer?

I mentioned a lot of Glossier products, and you can get 20% off your first Glossier order when you shop through my rep page. I do make a commission on orders through my page, but it all gets invested back into this space, and it means a lot to have your support!

Brand to Try | Wander Beauty

June 23, 2017 in Makeup

Many of my favorite makeup products to wear as of late have been coming from brands known for their dedication to easy/on-the-go beauty. Wander Beauty is a brand that caught my eye last year, and while I don't have too many pieces from the line, I've been impressed enough by what I have to want to try more.

Wander Beauty was co-founded by Lindsay Ellingson, a former Victoria's Secret Model, and Divya Gugnani. The idea was to create a travel-inspired yet luxury experience, and as Ellingson had traveled the world when working as a model, she knew just the kinds of products that worked and that didn't work. The line looks to simplify and streamline your routine without compromising quality or performance. I like my makeup to be super effortless on a day to day basis, so this ethos really resonates with me.

I've tried four products from the brand so far, the first one being the Exquisite Eye Liquid Shadow in Bronze. It's a liquid eyeshadow with a doe foot applicator that's super easy to apply. It's incredibly creamy and blends out so well with a finger. The formula lasts well throughout the day with minimal creasing. The Bronze shade is the perfect everyday bronze for me - it's quite neutral and effortless to wear. If a bronze shade leans too warm I have to be sure to also wear eyeliner and enough mascara to keep it from looking like I have pinkeye, but this shade isn't that high maintenance. I can put it on with a quick sweep of mascara for a chic and defined easy eye look.

Speaking of mascara, their Unlashed Volume & Curl Mascara is simply the best. I haven't been able to shut up about it lately because it's just blown me away, and I'm definitely going to be repurchasing it for a long time. It has a really interesting curvy brush that lifts every lash. It's a natural-bristled brush and a slightly drier formula, so it gives the most fluttery, fanned-out lashes. One coat gives a more natural look for every day, but it layers really well to a more dramatic look. I'm also the queen of smudgy lashes, and this one manages to last all day without smudging on me!

I've also been using the Dualist Matte & Illuminating Concealer* a lot lately. It's the only concealer in the line, but it's really the only concealer you need, period. One end is a matte stick concealer, and the other end is a more sheer, illuminating liquid concealer with a doe foot. Usually stick concealers are too dry and cakey for my skin, but this one is different. It glides on smoothly and feels lightweight but has enough coverage for blemishes and discoloration. The illuminating side is beautifully creamy and hydrating underneath the eyes, and it really helps to brighten and conceal dark circles. Both sides of the concealer are formulated with aloe vera extract, collagen, and Vitamin E to nourish and plump the skin while also concealing imperfections. I love that you have all you need in one product - I use the matte end on redness around my nose and on blemishes and the illuminating end under my eyes as well as on my forehead and chin for a more highlighted look. It really gives me quite a healthy, glowing complexion. And if this review hasn't swayed you, I know Katie Jane Hughes mentions using this quite a lot!

The latest product I've tried from Wander Beauty is the Beach Balm* in the shade Sangria. It's a sheer tinted balm that is a lovely berry red shade. It nourishes the lips with shea butter, Vitamins C & E, chamomile extract, and prickly pear extract, so it's perfect to toss in your bag and reapply throughout the day. The shade gives the perfect flush of color and seems like it would be quite universally-flattering. When I wear this it gives a "just bitten" effect to my lips that really makes a look seem more fresh and effortless. I also love dotting it on my cheeks for a dewy flush. Wander Beauty has a lot of other lip products that look absolutely beautiful, so I'm dying to try those next!

Have you tried anything from Wander Beauty?

*Products marked with an asterisk have been sent to me for consideration, but all opinions are my own. Please see my disclaimer for more information. This is not a sponsored post, I just would love to see the brand get more recognition!

Five Luxe Nude Lipsticks

June 22, 2017 in Makeup

I love finding a good nude lipstick to add to my collection. They're what I wear most, so they're the most easily justifiable to me. I've picked through my collection and found my favorite luxe options, from Tom Ford to Charlotte Tilbury.

Surratt Bandy, Chanel Adrienne, TF Nubile, CT Pillow Talk, By Terry Bare Me

Surratt Beauty Lipslique Lipstick, 'Bandy' | I first heard of these lipsticks through Estee Lalonde. She raved about them so I picked my first one up in the Sephora VIB Sale last fall. I instantly fell in love and shortly after added the shade Bandy to my collection. It's a really pretty warm nude that doesn't pull orange on me and adds a lot of brightness to my face. I like that it's not super light, but rather a similar shade to my natural lip color. The formula of these lipsticks is beautiful - incredibly creamy and comfortable, but they don't slide around. They feel more like a balm than a lipstick. They do fade throughout the day because of that, but they fade evenly and are easy to reapply.

Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick, 'Adrienne' | I got this one purely because of Anna from The Anna Edit. It's one of the most beautiful lipsticks I own, from the packaging to the shade, and it's the perfect nude. It's the perfect mix of beige, pink, and peach, so it goes with any look and doesn't wash me out. It's comfortable and creamy on the lips, and I like dabbing it in with my fingers to make it look even more natural. This is worth the splurge for sure.

Tom Ford Lip Color Shine, 'Nubile' | I didn't realize how similar this was to the Surratt lipstick, but oh well. Again, it's a lovely warm nude that has a slightly sheerer formula that allows your natural lip color to show through. I think I detect a tiny bit of shimmer in it as well just to give the lips more of a sheen. It still feels totally smooth and hydrating on the lips, and the shine it leaves it just gorgeous. It's definitely one to keep out on display, too.

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick, 'Pillow Talk' | If I could only pick one lipstick to wear for the rest of my life, I think I'd pick Pillow Talk. It's the most perfect pinky nude that really enhances the lips. Charlotte Tilbury's Matte Revolution formula is one of my favorite lipstick formulas as well - you get the chicness of a matte with none of the discomfort. If you're looking to get your first Charlotte Tilbury lipstick or maybe your first high-end nude lipstick in general, I'd definitely start with this one.

By Terry Rouge Expert Click Stick, 'Bare Me' | Again, I didn't realize how similar this was to one I already had. If you took Pillow Talk and made it a shade or two deeper, you'd have By Terry Bare Me. It's a lovely creamy matte formula as well, and I love the shape of the bullet - it's quite easy to fill in and get a precise line all at once with the unique teardrop shape. Each click of the pen brings up the perfect amount of product for one application, so you're never at risk of smushing the product with the cap. I think out of all the lipsticks featured here, this formula is my favorite.

What's your favorite high-end lipstick?
