Glossier 101 | The Skincare

August 09, 2017 in Skincare

A while back I wrote about all the makeup products Glossier has to offer, and I promised a skincare post was coming soon. For some reason, it has taken me much longer than I planned to get this together, but at long last, here are my thoughts on every Glossier skincare product. If you're interested, you can shop through my rep link to get 10% off your first order. Rep Program aside, Glossier is and always has been one of my favorite brands - I bought everything in the line before I became a rep, and even now I've repurchased every product I've been sent for free through the Rep Program.

Milky Jelly Cleanser | I hate using the phrase "holy grail" to describe products these days, but this is without a doubt my holy grail cleanser. It has the most beautifully soft, cushion-y formula that smooths over the skin and feels thoroughly cleansing without being stripping. It can be used on dry skin to remove makeup, which I do when I'm wearing just a little bit, or as a morning/second cleanse on wet skin. I use it every morning because I find it washes away the grime and any excess skincare from the night before, while soothing and prepping my skin for the day.

Soothing Face Mist | I don't know why more people don't talk about this - I love face mists, and I'm all about rosewater, so this is a bit of a no-brainer. It instantly calms down any redness/irritation I'm experiencing and feels so soothing on the skin. The mist-er itself is nice and not aggressive.

The Supers* | Glossier's powerful little serums have become favorites in my routine as well. There's Super Bounce, which hydrates and plumps the skin with hyaluronic acid and Vitamin B5, Super Pure, which calms and soothes with Niacinamide and Zinc, and Super Glow, which brightens and energizes with Vitamin C and Magnesium. I use Super Bounce the most, as my skin is always quite dry, but the other two slot into my routine nicely. Super Pure is my favorite when I'm breaking out or having a bout of stressed skin, and Super Glow peps up my skin in the mornings. If you only want one I'd definitely recommend Super Bounce first, but all three are available in a pack that saves you $19.

Priming Moisturizer | My go-to, everyday moisturizer in the spring and summer. It's lightweight and yet still very hydrating (although I need to layer up or use something richer in the winter). It greatly reduces the redness in my skin, so I can't help but use it every day. It smooths out the skin and adds a beautiful dewy glow, so it's always the one I use under makeup. If I had to choose just one favorite from Glossier, this might be it. Or Milky Jelly. I don't know, don't make me choose.

Priming Moisturizer Rich* | Remember when I said I needed something richer in the winter? Well, this guy is it. It has all the same beautiful plumping and priming properties of the original, but with a richer, more buttery formula. I use it as my night cream every night (mixed with a couple other things), and during the day on cold, dry days. It locks in moisture and keeps me hydrated all day long. It does contain a bit of lavender oil, so do be aware if you're sensitive to that. I love the scent it gives, and it's part of the reason I love using it every night.

Invisible Shield SPF 35* | Invisible Shield has made me realize the importance of using sunscreen daily. It's totally clear and weightless on the skin, which is something I had never experienced before with a sunscreen. I use it every day, even if it's cloudy/raining, to make sure my skin is always protected. Since using this every day, I've noticed less freckles and moles appearing, and acne marks fade away faster (mind you, these results are probably just because I was using a sunscreen at all and not exclusive to this one).

Balm Dotcom | My favorite lip balm - I have them scattered everywhere, in bags and pockets and throughout my house in multiple scents. Some people say it's just vaseline in a tube, and while it does contain petrolatum, it also has other ingredients to actually moisturize the lips, like Lanolin and Castor Seed Oil, and the petrolatum seals it all in. My favorite scent changes all the time, but I'm currently really feeling the Mint one.

Mega Greens Galaxy Pack | If you're looking for a mask that will cleanse and purify the skin without being too harsh or stripping, then look no further. The Mega Greens Galaxy Pack is a creamy clay mask that doesn't fully dry down on the skin, and it contains lots of healthy greens that basically make it a juice cleanse for your face (Glossier's words, not mine). I love using this mask in conjunction with the Moisturizing Moon Mask, and I make it part of my little Sunday afternoon pamper routine.

Moisturizing Moon Mask | This is my favorite of Glossier's two masks. It's great for dehydrated skin, and it gets you back on your way to glowing. It contains obvious hydrators like Hyaluronic Acid, honey, and plant-derived squalene, and it also has licorice root and lemon extract to brighten the skin. This is great after a long day or before applying makeup for an incredibly smooth, plumped canvas. I also like applying a thin layer and leaving it on overnight - it's not sticky and won't get all over your pillows.

Thank you for reading this far if you've made it to the end. As I said above, you can use this link to get 10% off your first order. I do make a commission on orders through my link, but that money gets invested back into this space!

Three Mascaras for Any Occasion

August 08, 2017

I'm very picky when it comes to mascara. My lashes seem to be very eager to clump, so I have to be particular about what I use and how I apply it. Usually I find one mascara I love, use it to death for months, and move on, but recently I've been rotating between three depending on my mood and the rest of the look I'm wearing.

My go-to, everyday, ride-or-die is the Wander Beauty Unlashed Volume & Curl Mascara. One coat gives the most beautiful wispy, fluttery lash look. It's quite lengthening and makes it look like you have tons of lashes by fanning them out. It holds a curl pretty well on me throughout the day, and it doesn't smudge despite not being a waterproof formula. It has a curved wand that catches every lash and coats them with the perfect amount of product. I wear this on minimal makeup days, but it builds up extremely well for slightly more dramatic looks.

When I want something a bit of a step up from the Wander Beauty, I've been reaching for the Givenchy Noir Couture 4-in-1 Mascara.* I just love the brush on this - it's three ball shapes stacked together that also really catches and coats every lash without smudging all over the place. This one also fans out my lashes, but it gives a great hit of volume as well. It definitely gets you on your way to the false lash look. It doesn't smudge all day on me, and it isn't waterproof - another win.

When I want my lashes to really stand out, I of course turn to the L'Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara. This is the first drugstore mascara I've found where I don't need to use the waterproof version for it not to smudge. The hype is real with this one - it really bulks and builds up the lashes without looking clumpy or spidery. It gives great length, and it curls so well that my lashes still won't hit my glasses even if I forget to use a curler on them first. I've been so pleasantly surprised with this one, and if you haven't tried it yet, I'd highly suggest booking it to the drugstore ASAP to get one.

What's your favorite mascara? I'm super happy with these, but I'm itching to try more again - I just tried a sample of the new Lancome Monsieur Big Mascara and am loving it so far.

*The Givenchy mascara was sent to me for consideration, but all opinions are my own. Please see my disclaimer for more information.

Beauty Mixology

August 04, 2017 in Makeup, Skincare

Recently I've noticed a bit of a pattern in my makeup and skincare routines: I mix products together a lot. Maybe it's an effect of my spending ban - rather than buying new products, I sort of create my own by mixing together what I already have. Mixing products helps to achieve the perfect finish/look/whatever you're looking for without having to go out and buy a whole new product.

The Glossier Cloud Paints were what really got me into mixing my products together - since they blend so effortlessly, they also blend and mix really well with each other. I love creating new shades from the four - my go-to is Puff and Dusk for the perfect dusty neutral pink shade. Then I saw Tamira Jarrel mixing Cloud Paints with Haloscopes, and I've been hooked on those combinations ever since. I love mixing Cloud Paint in Dusk with Haloscope in Topaz for bronzer, and Puff and Moonstone mixed make a beautiful glowy blush.

Lip products are another big one for me - I have a lot already, but it's always super fun to create new colors that I may not have in my collection. I've been loving the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipsticks in Whip and Chutney mixed together (worn here). They're so creamy that they mix super easily. I also love combining the Glossier Generation G's in Like and Leo - like my blush combo above, it makes a great neutral pink. If I ever want to tone down a lip color, I just mix in a little of the Lise Watier Fondant Lipstick in Jennifer - the sheer creamy nude mutes down anything and makes it softer.

I've really taken this concept and run with it in the skin category. I mix the Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint with just about everything to make it a little more sheer and glowy. My favorite combinations are with the Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and the It Cosmetics CC Cream. Speaking of Luminous Silk, my go-to base for special occasions is a couple pumps of the Armani mixed with the Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation - the combination is just like healthy skin in a bottle. I've also been experimenting with mixing liquid highlighters into my base products - for someone who loves glowy skin as much as I do, I'm surprised I haven't played around with this much yet. So far my favorite way is to mix it in with a primer so it's not too "disco ball." Products like the Marc Jacobs Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter or the Sephora Collection Radiant Luminizing Drops mixed into the Marc Jacobs Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer makes the perfect luminous base, and just enough glow peeks through underneath foundation.

This mixing habit has also made its way into my skincare routine - you may have seen me post on Instagram that I've been mixing up a concoction of Glossier Priming Moisturizer Rich, Kypris Antioxidant Dew, and The Ordinary Rosehip Oil most nights, and it leaves me with the most glowy, nourished skin come morning. A lot of times I'll mix an oil into my night cream if I can't decide which I want to use first - it just really amps up the cream. I didn't include them in the photos, but Glossier's Supers are perfect for mixing - Super Bounce and Super Pure is my go-to combination when I'm breaking out. Since they're so simple, it's easy to mix and create just what you need.

Do you mix any of your products together?
