Guest Post: My Sister's End-of-Semester Favorites

December 13, 2014

Taylor here again. So by the time you're reading this, I will be finished with my first semester of college, which is a very weird thought for me. It feels like I just moved to Boston a month ago. Anyway, as the semester is winding down, I thought I'd take some time and share with you my favorites from the fall semester.

My first product is the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette. Kelsey got me this for my birthday, so while I've barely had it a month, I have literally used it every day. The colors are simply beautiful and so easy to blend and apply that I don't mind taking the little bit of extra time in the morning to apply it. I tend to use a blend of Foxy and Walk of Shame all over the lids, Naked 2 in the outer corner, Faint blended into the crease, and Crave smudged along the lash line. Finishing up with Venus in the inner corner gives a beautiful natural look that uses every color in the palette, which almost never happens.

My next favorite is a little odd, but it is seriously so good I had to mention it. It's the Gillette Venus and Olay razor. While, if we're being honest, I originally picked this out because they were yellow (favorite color and old habits die hard), these are seriously amazing. They have the five blades of the Venus razor with bars of Olay lotion on either end, meaning you don't really need shaving cream. And I'm not exaggerating when I say using these means I only have to shave my legs once a week and they are still pretty smooth in that time.

Another favorite is the Jouer Mineral Powder Blush in Peony. This is seriously one of the most beautiful blushes I've ever seen. It's a bright blue-toned pink but looks so natural when on the cheeks. It just looks like you flush a beautiful color, especially because it blends like an absolute dream no matter if it's over the top of foundation or just on bare skin.

And my last favorite of my first semester at school would have to be the Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Coffee Shimmer (264). First of all, it's cheap, which as a now broke college student I can always appreciate. But more than that it's a gorgeous pinky-brown shade with a hint of shimmer without being frosted. Blended down a bit on the lips, it makes them look bigger and slightly darker than their natural shade without being over the top, making it absolutely perfect for fall and winter, although I bought this over the summer and wore it then as well - it's a really versatile shade. It especially looks nice with the natural eye look of the Naked Basics palette and the brightening effect of the Jouer blush. See what I did there?

Multimasking with Lush

December 11, 2014

I don't know about you, but I love a good face mask. There's just something so relaxing and "treat yo-self" (any Parks and Rec fans out there?) about slathering goop on your face, sitting for ten minutes, and rinsing it off, leaving behind a completely new you!

I've recently fallen in love with the Lush Fresh Face Masks, probably because my sister lives close enough to a Lush store to pick them up for me (since they're fresh and have to be refrigerated, you can't get them online). I've already sung the praises of the Catastrophe Cosmetic mask (in my Current Skincare Loves post), but I've added another into the mix - Oatifix. Since the Catastrophe Cosmetic mask is more purifying and cleansing, I keep that to the center of my face - on and around my nose, chin, and the middle of my forehead - where I need its benefits more. The Oatifix mask is a new favorite because it's so nourishing and smells divine - it's got oatmeal to soothe, banana to soften, and ground almonds to slough away flakes. Since it's so lovely for dry skin, I've been using this around the outer perimeter of my face - my cheeks and the rest of my forehead not covered in the other mask. These areas of my face tend to be more dry and irritated/sensitive, so this mask has been excellent for smoothing and soothing.

Using a combination of masks ensures that all my skin's needs are sorted and leaves me with a glowing, clean, and moisturized complexion.

Do you use more than one mask at once? What's your favorite combination?

The Perfect Blush for Sick Days

December 09, 2014

If you're anything like me, when you get sick it really shows in your face. Sicknesses don't really phase me - I don't mind going out and about when I've got the sniffles, but people can always tell I'm sick, you know? I'm really pale anyway, but something about being sick makes all the melanin in me disappear for a few days - I practically become translucent.

For these paler-than-pale sick days, I've found the perfect product to mask that worn, sallow look - the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Diffused Heat. Besides being the most beautiful product I've ever seen, it's just the best thing to fake your way to flawlessly healthy skin. The color is a beautiful cross between a pink and a red, and it makes for a very natural-looking flush, like you just came in from frolicking in the snow. The Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light is swirled throughout the blush, leaving the most subtle, but still noticeable, glow. You don't see specific shimmer particles on the skin, but it just looks like your skin is glowing from within.

The luminous finish of the blush, paired with the perfect flushed color, makes this a must-have for anyone who just wants to look healthier and more awake - rosy-cheeked, bright-eyed, and bushy-tailed and all that.

Have you tried this blush before?
