Choosing My Wedding Makeup From My Current Collection

February 07, 2017 in Makeup

I've been engaged for a little over two months now, but it's only just starting to feel real now. I just went to try on wedding dresses on Saturday, and I ended up getting my dream dress - it was the first one I tried on! I tried on five or six more, but I knew right away the first one was the one. This weekend we're starting to look at venues, so it's really got me in the wedding mindset. I've been poring over my makeup collection looking for products I'd possibly use on my wedding day, and I think I've found a nice roundup so far.

BASE

As far as primers go, my skin responds best to ones that provide hydration. My favorite at the moment is more of a moisturizer, but it perfectly preps skin for makeup. I just can't stop using the Glossier Priming Moisturizer Rich* morning and night - it perfectly plumps up my skin, gives it a dewy glow, and diminishes a lot of my redness. For foundation, I've found the most beautiful combination on my skin is the Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation and the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. Using them both together gives the skinlike finish of the Aqua Foundation while also having the longevity and luminosity of the Luminous Silk. If I'm not feeling so extra on the day (but really when else can you be super extra if not your wedding day?), I'll go for Luminous Silk on its own for sure.

EYESHADOW

As of right now, I'm without a doubt going to be using the Marc Jacobs Style Eye Con No 7 Plush Eyeshadow Palette in The Lover. I already know I'm not going to want a dramatic smokey eye as that's not the kind of look I go for every day, so these lovely soft pink shades will be perfect. These shadows also last really well on me throughout the day with minimal creasing, so I'm thinking it would be a good choice because of that, too.

CHEEKS

Since I'm thinking my eyeshadow will be soft neutral pink shades, it's only fitting that my blush would be the same. The Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic Blush in First Love is just the most beautiful thing. It doesn't look like much in the pan, but it adds the most natural flush to the cheeks. I'll probably get super flushed on the day, since that always happens when I'm the center of attention, so I don't want anything too pink. CT's got me covered. I also want a beautiful glow, and I tried a new combination of highlighters the other day that's already become a favorite. I started with a sheered out layer of the Sephora Collection Radiant Luminizing Drops in Morning Light - I applied a drop to my hand, dabbed a bit on my cheekbones, and then blended it with a Beautyblender. Once it was set, I went over it with a tiny bit of the Jouer Powder Highlighter in Rose Quartz with a fan brush. The result was a beautiful, but still natural/dewy glow.

LIPS

I really want to make my way back to the Bite Beauty Lip Lab in New York City to create a custom lipstick for the occasion, but if that doesn't happen, my lipstick of choice will without a doubt be the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk. It's such a beautiful pink nude shade that enhances the lips and doesn't make me look washed out. I think it'll complement this pinky look nicely, too. And of course I'd need to use the matching Lip Cheat, too.

What products are your go-tos for special occasions? Do you ever think about the products you'll wear if/when you get married?

The "I Woke Up Late" Makeup Bag, Revisited

February 03, 2017 in Makeup

Remember a couple months ago when I said I had gotten into the bad habit of staying in bed as late as possible and putting on a quick bit of makeup once I got to work? Well, I've been doing it again. But this time, I've made a little bit more of an effort with more products used, but I'm still able to slap it all on super quickly.

I've been starting by dotting the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer all over my face and blending it in with a Beautyblender. It blends in super quickly and gives great coverage while still looking skin-like. I have yet to try the foundation from this line, but if it's anything like the concealer, I think it would be love. Next I brush through my brows with the Glossier Boy Brow in Brown - this is the perfect one-step brow product, as it defines and sets my brows at once. There's a new Clear shade out now that I love using when I've already filled my brows in with a pencil.

I've actually been using eyeshadow, even when I'm in a super rush, because the Smashbox Cover Shot Eyeshadow Palette in Golden Hour is really easy to use on-the-go. The palette itself is the perfect travel size, so it easily fits into my tiny makeup bag. The shadows also apply easily and blend nicely with just a finger, so I don't even have to stash any brushes in my desk. I've been using the third pink shade all over my lid and then dabbing a little bit of the purple-bronze shade next to it in my outer corners for a little more definition. I then quickly tightline with the Colourpop Creme Gel Liner in Brew-Haha - it glides on quickly and stays put all day. For mascara my latest obsession has been the Wander Beauty Unlashed Volume & Curl Mascara. It gives me the exact lash look I've been looking for - super fluttery, fanned-out, and curled. It's not waterproof, but it still lasts the whole day on me, so I'm sold.

I've hopped back on the blush bandwagon, and I think it's because the Milk Makeup Blush Oil is so easy to use. I have the shade Ripe, which is a lovely neutral pink. You just click the bottom of the pen, roll a little on your cheeks, and blend out with a finger. It adds the nicest dewy flush to the cheeks that I've been super into. I can't go a day without highlighter, and I've still been striping on the Glossier Haloscope in Quartz - it's my ultimate favorite for a dewy sheen.

For lips, I happened to find the Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Glace floating around at the bottom of my work bag a couple weeks ago, and I've fallen back in love with it. The formula is beautiful and comfortable, yet long-lasting because it's matte. The shade Glace is a lovely mauve-y brown shade that adds just a hint of definition to the lips without being too bold - just my kind of shade.

Colourpop Pressed Eyeshadows | Review + Swatches

February 02, 2017 in Makeup

Luckily I'm not too easily swayed by hype these days, but after the initial launch of Colourpop's new pressed eyeshadows and hearing my sister rave about them, I just had to place an order. I ordered while they had their promotion for a free eyeshadow celebrating hitting 1 million likes on Facebook, so I paid for 8 shadows and got the 9th for free - I had gotten a small empty Z Palette from Amazon to put them in. They already have quite a good range of shades, and I'm sure they'll expand that in the coming months. I'm super excited about the palette I was able to put together - I've never made a custom palette before!

I'm very pleasantly surprised with these eyeshadows. I'm not saying I had low expectations, but I really wasn't expecting to love them as much as I do. Of course, some shades perform better than others, but you find that with most brands. Overall, the shades are very pigmented and blend out super easily without getting muddy or patchy. And I haven't experienced any fallout with the shades I've chosen. I do experience some creasing at the very end of the day (with primer), but this happens to me with almost all eyeshadows - the only ones I've found that have not done this are from Anastasia. In fact, the consistency of these shadows remind me a lot of the Anastasia ones.

Fire Fly, Liar Liar, Wait For It, Come & Get It, Made To Last, High Strung, Bel Air, Milli, Cute Alert

Fire Fly - Fire Fly is a matte pale beige shade. It's very close to my skintone, so it works really well as an all-over lid shade to set my eyeshadow primer and to make sure all other eyeshadows will blend well on top of it. It feels super buttery to the touch and is really pigmented.

Liar Liar - Liar Liar is a shimmery pink champagne shade. This is not as soft and buttery as the other shades I have, but it still performs really well and doesn't feel chunky. It's quite metallic and works really well as an inner corner highlight.

Wait For It - I was super excited for this shade. It's a matte bright peach shade that's unlike anything in my collection. It's soft to the touch and not powdery or chalky, and it makes for a super pretty and unique transition shade.

Come & Get It - Come & Get It is absolutely gorgeous. It's a rosy pink shade with a beautiful gold duochrome sheen. It makes for a really unique all-over lid shade, and it looks really pretty with Wait For It blown out in the crease.

Made To Last - Made To Last is a matte neutral mauve shade that's such a typical "me" shade. It looks really nice in the crease paired with slightly cooler-toned shadows, which is usually my go-to look. This shade is also really soft to the touch.

High Strung - Ok, this one is my favorite. It's an ultra-metallic bronze-y rose shade that swatches the most beautifully out of the bunch I've got here. It's insanely pigmented and looks beautiful all over the lid. I can definitely see myself hitting pan on this one.

Bel Air - I got Bel Air to have an alternative to Made To Last for a crease shade for warmer looks. It's a neutral taupe shade that goes with just about everything.

Milli - This was the exclusive shade they were giving away for reaching 1 million Likes on Facebook. Hopefully they bring it on as a permanent shade because it's a stunning warm bronze that performs just as well as High Strung.

Cute Alert - I knew I wanted a deep shade for creating a more smokey eye, so I went with this burgundy shade. It's stunning blended lightly in the outer corner, especially with shades like Come & Get It and High Strung. It's not quite as pigmented as some of the other shades here, but it performs well just the same.

Have you tried any of Colourpop's Pressed Eyeshadows yet? What shades are on your wishlist?
