Wedding Inspiration

February 16, 2017 in Lifestyle, Wedding

I know I just had a wedding-related post last week, but I've gone a bit wedding crazy. After finding my perfect dress (it's called the "Venita" from Maggie Sottero's Avery collection if you want to look it up *raises eyebrows*), I'm on a mission to find my "perfect" everything. We've seen one venue so far and I fell in love - of course. It's a hotel that was built in the 20s, so it has the vintage feel I'm looking for as well as an atrium with tons of natural light. I have a feeling I'm going to just fall for the first thing of everything I see. Anyway, I thought it might be interesting to give you a little peek into my "moodboard." I'm thinking lots of blush pink, lots of greenery, and touches of rose gold. All photos below were found on Pinterest, but I will leave their sources at the end of the post.

Can we talk about that stunning vintage-inspired headpiece? I've got the Etsy shop favorited now - they have some similar rose gold styles, too. My dress feels a little vintage, so I think a headpiece like that would be perfect. I'm definitely looking to have succulents here and there - in bouquets, boutonnieres, and centerpieces. As I said above, the main color I'm centering on so far is blush pink - I already know it will be the bridesmaids' dress color, and I'm thinking I'm going to give my sister some extra rose gold accents to make her stand out as Maid of Honor. Speaking of rose gold, I want a lot of it. I love the terrarium-esque centerpieces in the photos above, and I think I'll definitely look for something like them. Having a cute balloon set up like the one pictured would be fun for photo ops, too, I think.

You can follow my wedding moodboard on Pinterest here. Do you set up moodboards like this? It's actually one of my favorite things to do.

Marc Jacobs Style Eye Con No. 7 | The Lover

February 15, 2017 in Makeup

I've pretty much been lusting after a Marc Jacobs Style Eye Con No. 7 Plush Eyeshadow Palette ever since the whole line launched - the only problem was none of the color collections really spoke to me. The neutral option, "The Lolita," seemed a little too similar to things I already had, and a little too neutral, which I didn't know was possible for me. Fast forward to late last year when I noticed the new palette called "The Lover" on Sephora's website, and it was frankly love at first sight.

I've been thinking about what kind of makeup I'll wear when I get married for the longest time, and as soon as I laid eyes on this palette I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. The main color of my wedding is going to be blush pink, so this lineup of shades is perfect. My sister got me this palette for Christmas this past year after I couldn't shut up about it for months.

Each Style Eye Con palette comes with seven shades, and The Lover palette is a collection of rosy neutrals. These are just my absolute favorite shades at the moment, as I'm really having a love affair with everything blush pink. This palette is best for softer eyeshadow looks, as there's really only that last darker brown shade to deepen things up. I'm all about a soft eye look though, so this palette is right up my alley.

Every shade is beautiful and pigmented. The mattes are buttery smooth without being chalky, and the shimmers are creamy and not chunky. I'm amazed by the palest pink shade on the far left of the palette - look how pigmented the swatch is! It makes for the perfect highlight shade for a tonal pink look. The shades all go so well together without just looking like repeats of the same shade over and over (which is how I sometimes feel about the UD Naked3). They do kick up some powder when you place a brush in the pan (ABH shadows do this, too), which isn't an issue for me, but I know some people get annoyed by that. I haven't experienced any fallout with any of the shades, either, so the shadows are not powdery once picked up. They build up on the lid beautifully and also work well as a sheer wash of color. The buttery smooth texture blends effortlessly without getting patchy or muddy, too. When used with a primer, these also lasted all day long on me without creasing or fading. It's a wedding day contender for sure.

Have you tried any of the Style Eye Con Eyeshadow Palettes? 'The Lover' seems to be limited edition, so you better go snap it up soon if you're into it!

Pink Lipsticks for Valentine's Day

February 14, 2017 in Makeup

Pink lipsticks for Valentine's Day? Groundbreaking, am I right? I'm going with the cliche this year and rounding up some of my favorite rosy tones to make the lips look flushed and pouty. I know red lipstick is also a popular option at this time of year, but for my lowkey plans (sitting on my couch watching Downton Abbey by myself because Brett will be back at the Police Academy), it's a little too high-maintenance.

NARS Satin Lip Pencil, 'Rikugien' | This is the OG rosy lipstick in my collection. NARS Rikugien is a lovely wash of pink that looks so pretty and feminine. The Satin Lip Pencils have one of my favorite formulas, feeling creamy and comfortable on the lips but still having quite good longevity.

Clinique Pop Lip Color + Primer, 'Plum Pop' | The Clinique Lip Pops are another one of my favorite lipstick formulas - super creamy and smoothing on the lips. Plum Pop is, as the name suggests, a more plummy tone. It's like a more intense version of one of my favorites, MAC Syrup. It's a little bit of a unique take on the classic rose option.

Glossier Generation G, 'Crush' (20% off here) | I feel like I mention at least one Generation G shade in every lipstick roundup I write. The shade Crush is perfect for Valentine's Day, as it leaves a sheer wash of bright pink, making the lips look flushed and just-bitten. This shade would look so nice with a flushed cheek and fluttery lashes.

Marc Jacobs Le Marc Liquid Lip Creme, 'Shush, Blush' | Because I haven't raved about this formula enough, I needed to mention it here. If you like the intensity of liquid lipsticks but not how drying and matte they are, I'd definitely recommend giving these a look. It leaves a satin-y sheen on the lips that doesn't fully dry down, so it's still comfortable throughout the day. Shush, Blush is a lovely deep pink shade that's perfect if you want something a little more bold.

Guerlain KissKiss Satin Finish Lipstick, 'Rosy Boop' | This beautiful lipstick is the one that inspired me to search my collection for some rosier tones. It's such a lovely soft pink that looks quite similar to a natural lip color. These lipsticks feel so beautiful on, containing hyaluronic acid for some subtle plumpness, and this shade has a soft golden shimmer that enhances the lips.

Rikugien, Plum Pop, Crush, Shush Blush, Rosy Boop, Pillow Talk, Petale de Rose, Mascarpone

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick, 'Pillow Talk' | I couldn't write about pink lipsticks and not include this stunning (and new!) pinky-nude, could I? Pillow Talk is the ultimate lip-enhancing shade, perfect for drawing attention to the lips in a subtle way. The Matte Revolution Lipsticks are never drying and yet stick around - they're more of a luminous matte.

Jouer Longwear Lip Creme, 'Petale de Rose' | Jouer's liquid lipsticks are probably my favorites, and Petale de Rose is a stunning rose shade on the lips. It's quite neutral (which Jouer does best), but it still adds a soft pop of pink that's perfect for Valentine's Day. It adds such a romantic feel to a whole look and stays put for hours without feeling too dry.

Bite Beauty Multistick, 'Mascarpone' | Ok I'm obsessed with the Multisticks. I've just started using Mascarpone more and more, and I don't know why it took me so long. It's a really pretty warm, almost deep salmon-y pink. The Multisticks can be used on eyes, lips, and cheeks, and they perform well on all three. This is definitely one to check out if you're a fan of monochrome looks.

Are you going with a pink lipstick today, or something else?
