An Ode to the Marc Jacobs Remedy Concealer Pen

A few weeks ago, I picked up the Marc Jacobs Remedy Concealer Pen in the shade Rendezvous (1).  Since then I have not been able to put my makeup on without including this, and I have nothing but good things to report back on it.

Since I'm very pale, I automatically swatched the lightest color (besides the two "corrector shades"). On my hand, it looked quite pink-toned. Since my skin has cool undertones, I thought it would be a perfect match, and also thought the pink tone would be great to cancel out the bluish undereye circles I'm prone to. However, when putting this under my eyes for the first time, it actually looked quite neutral-to-yellow on me. My face must have much more pink in it than the back of my hands - something to remember for next time. Before I blended it in, I'll admit I was a bit disappointed. But remember above I said I had nothing but good things to say: it blended in so seamlessly that it was impossible to tell the undertone was slightly off for me. It's so pigmented that despite not being pink enough to "cancel" my dark circles, it covered them up so well. The yellow tone also acts as a lovely natural highlight, making my skin glow and making me look like I actually got a full night's sleep. It's so creamy that it's a dream to blend, yet doesn't budge or crease throughout the day.

Although this gives great coverage and is very brightening, I'd say my favorite part of this product is the metal-tipped applicator. I can't even describe how nice the cool tip feels when put on my puffy eye bags in the morning. I can instantly see a difference in the puffiness, even before blending. The clicker on the end of the pen to dispense the product is quite satisfying to use as well. I tend to use one click split between both eyes if I've had a decent night's sleep, or one click per eye if I wake up looking like a zombie. I apply most of the dispensed product under my eyes, but blend it down towards my nose in a triangle shape to take advantage of its lovely highlighting properties. This has definitely become an everyday staple for me and one I reach for even on the most minimal of makeup days.

Have you tried this concealer pen before? Do you have recommendations of other concealer pens I should try?

The Beauty Wish List

As I've said before, my favorite person to go shopping with is my sister, especially when our shopping trips include wandering around Sephora and Ulta for hours and hours. We haven't been shopping together in about a month (see each of our hauls here and here), but I'm going to see her this weekend! I know we'll be rushing out to go shopping at some point, so I've been getting prepared and keeping a list of things I'm interested in.

At the very top of my list is the Diorskin Nude Skin-Glowing Makeup. I spent the summer lusting after the Diorskin Nude BB Creme, but since the weather is getting cooler and I'm happy with my Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, I've decided it's the foundation I truly want. If a foundation promises to give me a glow, I'm all over that. This foundation supposedly has translucent pigments in it, so it allows the skin's natural radiance to shine through rather than covering the skin like a mask. I've been going back and forth between this and the new Dior Star Fluid Foundation. They sound similar so I'll just have to ask about them in store before I make a final decision if I decide to get one.

I'm going to have to take a trip to a MAC counter as well, as I've got a few products from there on my list. I'd like to try another Lip Pencil, as I said in my September Favorites, that is a lighter and pinker version of Whirl. I also have a few lipsticks on my list: Velvet Teddy, a matte brown-toned nude (I am all over this trend recently), Patisserie, a sheer neutral pink, and Plumful, a sheer plum. I've also been wanting to try the Prep & Prime Lip since reading a post on Vivianna Does Makeup that mentioned it, and the "Essiebutton effect" is in full force, making me think I need the Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Groundwork.

I'm also looking for a nice highlighter. Since the weather is cooling down, I like adding in the highlighting step to keep my skin looking glowy when my natural radiance (read: sweat) isn't kicking in. I have TheBalm's Mary-Lou Manizer, and it's just beautiful, but as this is the only one I own I'd like to add a more natural option into my stash. On my list to try out in the store are Benefit's Watt's Up and Girl Meets Pearl, and the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Luminous Light.

The last thing on my list is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade. I've been debating buying this for the longest time. It gets such rave reviews, but right now I'm happy with using the Brow Wiz. But after hearing that a few girls I know use it and always thinking their eyebrows look perfect in all of their Instagram photos, I just might have to try it for myself. It would be nice if this could replace my Brow Wiz because I'm sure it would last so much longer.

So it seems like I'll have to do a bit of prioritizing on this inevitable shopping trip to avoid spending my life savings - wish me luck!

What do you have on your wishlists?

Autumn Makeup: The Edit

As the weather gets cooler and cooler, I start to change not only my go-to outfits (read: leggings and sweaters) but also my go-to makeup. I don't necessarily reach for these products all for one look, but they're things I reach for more often in colder conditions.

Something about the cold weather makes me want a more flawless base. I've been going for the L'Oreal True Match Foundation - I have to ironically use a mix of C2 and C3 (C3 is really a lot darker than C2, though not quite as dark as the picture is showing). This is a fuller coverage and more matte than my dewy and light everyday grabs in warmer weather. To keep things from getting too matte, though, I like to apply a healthy layer of the L'Oreal Magic Lumi Light-Infusing Primer before applying the foundation. This injects so much life and brightness into my complexion, and it works perfectly to add in some glow to the otherwise matte foundation. I also like to use a bit of highlighter to add in some more glow just on the tops of my cheekbones and down my nose - theBalm's Mary-Lou Manizer is one of my favorites. For my cheeks, I make a switch from peachy pinks to deeper berry tones. Clinique's Cheek Pop in Berry Pop is a perfect transition between the two - it's quite a bright pink, but with a berry undertone. For a deeper berry I like the Josie Maran Argan Infinity Lip & Cheek Creamy Oil in the shade Boundless Berry. I put a small amount on the back of my hand and then use a stippling brush to apply it to my cheeks. Since this contains argan oil, it's very moisturizing and nourishing on the skin.

Moving on to eyes, I tend to favor deeper and more rusty, bronzey colors. As I mentioned in my September Favorites, I've been loving the Maybelline Color Tattoo Leather in Chocolate Suede. This is a deep chocolate brown with some delicate red/rusty shimmer through it to warm it up. To add even more reds and warm browns to the look, I love using the shades Sable and Garnet from my Lorac Pro Palette (third from the right in top & bottom row). For a simpler look, I'm loving the Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner Crayon in Topaz applied near the lashline and then messily smudged out using the sponge tip on the end of the pencil. This is a lovely rust-brown shade. When using more red shades on your eyes it's important to apply a good helping of mascara to help define and avoid looking like you have pink-eye. I use my usual mascara for this (L'Oreal Miss Manga).

Last is lips, and as I went on and on about in my Berry Lips post, I adore berry-colored lip products. If I don't go for a berry, however, I still like a deeper neutral color than my usual MLBB's. A new addition that I've been donning almost every day is a MAC Lipstick in Creme in Your Coffee. This is a cremesheen formula, so it is so moisturizing and comfortable on the lips, yet still lasts quite a while. This would be a lovely nude lipstick on someone with darker skin, but on me it adds just enough color to not be a nude, but it's not particularly bold. It's quite brown-toned, but when swatched next to something truly brown, like MAC's Velvet Teddy, you can see that it actually has a lovely pink tone to it as well. This shade is also perfect over the MAC Lip Pencil in Whirl to make for a little darker and bolder lip.
