2016 Beauty Favorites

December 29, 2016 in Makeup, Skincare

Am I the only one who feels like 2016 was the quickest year of their life? Because it certainly flew by. I started a new job in January and moved into my own place with Brett, and in November we got engaged! I've tried so many new beauty products this year - I decided to narrow it down to ten things to keep this post from getting out of control.

Glossier's The Supers* (review) | This was one of the most exciting launches of the year for me, and I was so grateful and excited for the opportunity to test them out early to help spread the word. I'm smitten with all three serums, but if I had to pick a favorite I'd have to say Super Bounce. All three have been working wonders on my skin since trying them, and I love that you can use them depending on how your skin is feeling.

Glossier Stretch Concealer (review) | Glossier had lots of exciting launches this year, and the other one I found myself using the most was their Stretch Concealer. It's super creamy and dewy on the skin, so it's perfect if you have dry undereyes like me. I also like that it's not super heavy coverage, so it's still good for a "no makeup" makeup look. You can shop through my rep page to get 20% off your first Glossier order!

Drunk Elephant Skincare | I've been playing around with my skincare routine all year, but I think I'm just now settling into one that really works - if I can manage to stick to it for a little while longer, I'll be sure to pop up a post on the products I'm using. But I've fallen head over heels for some Drunk Elephant Skincare products I've picked up this year - mainly their Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil and their Lala Retro Whipped Cream. They've been perfect for my super dry winter skin.

Max Factor Masterpiece Max Mascara* (review) | 2016 was the year I found my holy grail mascara, and it figures that it's limited edition. I definitely need to run and stock up. It gives me the perfect lash look for me, fanning out my lashes and gently adding some volume. And best of all, it doesn't smudge on me despite being a regular, non-waterproof formula.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette (review) | I kind of fell off the eyeshadow bandwagon this year, but I still had to mention this beauty. Almost every time I reached for an eyeshadow palette, it was this one. The formula is beautiful - Anastasia's eyeshadows are my favorite, and they don't crease on me all day long. There are enough neutral shades for me to reach for this every day, but enough pops of color to keep things interesting and bump up the drama.

Dior Fusion Mono Eyeshadow, 'Meteore' (review) | When I wanted a single eyeshadow, I time and again reached for this one. The formula is super lightweight and full of "chic" sparkle, and the color is the most perfect everyday bronze-y copper shade.

NARS Satin Lip Pencils | I fell hard for the NARS Satin Lip Pencils this year - I've still got a whole list of shades I want to add to my collection, but I'd say adding three within the last four months is enough to bring them into favorites territory. I pretty much can't be without either Bansar or Het Loo now.

Bite Beauty Multisticks (review) | This is another launch I was super excited about this year. I pounced on the Sephora website when they came out, picking up three shades, Biscotti, Mascarpone, and Cashew. I've definitely worn Cashew the most out of the three, but I love using all of them for monochrome looks. I really want to do a look on the blog in the new year showcasing these, so keep an eye out.

Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic, 'First Love' | My deep love for neutral blushes grew even deeper, and my favorite one of all to dust on this year has been First Love from Charlotte Tilbury. It's the perfect barely there pink shade that adds the softest flush without making me look too rosy.

Banila Co. Clean It Zero | I've found a new makeup remover of choice - the Banila Co. Clean It Zero. I picked this up on a whim when I saw it on sale at Peach and Lily, and it's been love ever since. I love a cleansing balm to remove my makeup, but this one is such a unique product - they call it a "sherbet" texture, and I guess that's accurate. Other cleansing balms I've used have gotten clumpy when I get to the end of the tub, but this one stayed super smooth and silky the whole way through. I'm working through my second tub now.

What were your favorite products this year?

The Beauty Crop Pucker Up & Play

December 28, 2016 in Makeup

You know me, I'm a sucker for a good lip crayon. When The Beauty Crop reached out to see if I would like to try out their limited edition Pucker Up & Play Set,* I was all ears. I had heard of the brand before and used their Lighting Crew Highlighting Cream (which was lovely), so I couldn't wait to see what these lip crayons would be like. If you're unfamiliar with them, The Beauty Crop is a 100% cruelty-free brand that aim to create products that use natural ingredients rather than unnecessary additives - many of their products use natural plant oils and extracts that will nourish the skin as you wear them.

R to L: Raisin the Roof, Peach Please, Guava Nice Day

The Pucker Up & Play Set comes with three PBJ Smoothie Sticks in super wearable, everyday shades. Raisin the Roof is a super pretty pale pink mauve that is a great "my lips but better" shade, Peach Please is the peachy pink of my dreams - normally peach tones look weird on me, but this one doesn't. And Guava Nice Day (I just love the names) is a beautiful pink berry shade - it's a little more bold than I'd typically wear day to day, but it isn't too out there. The formula is so creamy and comfortable on the lips, and they're incredibly pigmented as well - something I don't always expect from lip crayons. They feel quite balmy and nourishing on the lips, so I'm a huge fan. I've already relocated these to my purse to use day to day.

Have you tried anything from The Beauty Crop before?

*Products mentioned have been sent to me for consideration, but all opinions are my own. Please see my disclaimer for more information.

The Korean Beauty Haul + First Impressions

December 27, 2016 in Skincare

I've been growing bored with my skincare routine, and a few nasty breakouts in the last few weeks have convinced me I needed a change. My skin always seems to love any Korean skincare I try, so I knew just where to start.

You may have seen me mention on my Instagram that my work gave us Amazon giftcards for Christmas, and I immediately started looking up lists of the best beauty products to find there. List after list only mentioned Kbeauty, so I was sold. I first added the Missha Time Revolution First Treatment Essence - I've wanted to try this for ages after learning it was a dupe for the super expensive essence by SK-II. I've been using it morning and night for about a week, and I can definitely tell a difference in my skin. The results aren't dramatic or entirely visible, but I can just feel that it's doing something. My skin feels so much smoother, and it appears to be making my pores look smaller. I'm in love.

I also decided on the Su:m 37 Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick. I was super intrigued by a cleanser in stick form, and while this basically made it a bar of soap, it's advertised as having a low pH so I knew it wouldn't strip my skin. This is so lovely - it smells beautiful and really does make the skin feel super clean, but not squeaky or stripped. The last thing I picked up from Amazon was the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask. I didn't have any sleep masks, and I was thinking I could really use one with the cold weather rolling in. I really like this as well - I use it over my normal night cream and it helps to lock everything in. My skin feels super plump and rejuvenated come morning. It did take some getting used to because it absorbs quite quickly, leaving more of a film on your face, and I had been used to the feeling of layers and layers of oils and creams before I go to bed.

Before the Amazon order, I had made an order on Wishtrend a while ago, and it just came in on Friday. I went there first for the I'm From Honey Mask, which I saw in a Gothamista video. It looked absolutely perfect. I used it for the first time last night and it felt like just the thing my skin needed (I had a bit of a stomach bug yesterday, so my skin was really feeling dried out and dehydrated). It's a creamy honey consistency, and it contains 38.7% pure honey - super impressive. It came with a silicone applicator that I'll probably be using for all face masks - it applied a nice, even layer. My skin felt so nourished and refreshed upon washing the mask off. I can tell it's going to be a new favorite.

I also had to pick up something from Klairs - I was sent a few things from the brand a couple months ago, and I fell in love with everything. I decided to pick up their Rich Moist Soothing Serum, as it sounded like just the thing my constantly flushed and dehydrated skin needed. Again, I used it for the first time last night and was instantly impressed. I had been skipping out on serum lately and just using an oil before my moisturizer, but I'll definitely be slotting this serum into my routine. As much as I hate the word, it really did make my skin feel "moist." Once I test this a bit more I'm going to do a post on Klairs, as it really is overdue.

The last thing I got was the CosRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid. I've seen this mentioned all the time, so I knew it was something I would want to try. It's supposed to gently exfoliate to rid the skin of blackheads and prevent blemishes. Of course my pores haven't felt as clogged as of late (I think it's down to using that Missha Essence), so I haven't tried this yet. But I will report back!

I've fallen hard for all things Kbeauty, so please do leave your suggestions below! I'm interested in venturing into makeup as well - I was just sent some lip crayons from Missha so keep an eye out for a post on those soon. Have you tried any new skincare lately?
