The Metallic Lip

April 14, 2017 in Makeup

I don't jump on every trend (although I'm going to be talking about another one in my next post), but one trend I'm really feeling right now is the metallic lip. You'd think it wouldn't be all that wearable, but I still find a way to wear it in my day to day life. I have a few that are my go-tos, and they're all quite neutral shades - I think that's the secret to keeping the trend so wearable.

Lili Doree, Oyster Pearl, Bronze Rose, Skinny Dip

The most low-key of my metallic lip picks is the Surratt Beauty Prismatique Lipstick in Lili Doree. It's a warm pink shade with a peachy gold sheen that looks almost foiled. I think every time I mention this lipstick, I refer to it as "NARS Orgasm in lipstick form." It's absolutely beautiful, and it's a really comfortable formula. Sometimes shimmery formulas can feel chunky or thick on the lips, but this one is totally creamy.

The newest metallic lip product in my collection is the new Bite Beauty Prismatic Pearl Creme Lip Gloss in Oyster Pearl. I got this for my birthday, and it's absolutely stunning. The shade is so unique - a plummy-taupe shade with silver shimmer. It's ultra metallic and definitely a "look," but it's still a shade I'm comfortable wearing out and about (without needing to get used to it first). The formula is lovely, too - it feels super smooth on the lips and isn't tacky, but you can definitely feel that it's going to stick around for awhile. It's a definite new favorite, and I've already got my eye on a couple more shades.

If liquid lipsticks are your thing, the Jouer Longwear Lip Cremes have some beautiful metallic shades. My favorite is Bronze Rose,* a shade from their fall lineup that's a deep rose shade with a foiled shimmer. The Jouer Lip Cremes are my favorite liquid lipsticks, and the metallic shades I've tried are just as good as the regular mattes. Snapdragon is a beautiful color, too - a metallic purple shade.

If you've got loads of lipsticks and want something to transform them, I'd also suggest Jouer's Lip Toppers - they're not quite liquid lipstick, not quite lip gloss, and super shimmery while allowing your lip color underneath to show through. They feel almost balmy on the lips. My favorite is Skinny Dip, which is a champagne shade. It works well over all of my favorite neutral pinks. It's also worked over every formula of lipstick I've tried it with, from liquid mattes to creamier bullets. This one is so versatile because of its smooth formula - it's super easy to sheer out over the lips for a subtle, lip-enhancing shimmer, or you can build it up to something really metallic.

Have you tried the metallic lip trend yet? What are your favorites?

Re-ignited Love | Falling For Old Favorites

April 13, 2017 in Makeup

I recently did a clearout of my makeup collection and got some fancy new drawers to reorganize everything. In the process, I happened to dig up a few things I used to rant and rave about but had stopped using for awhile. It really inspired me to start using them again and also figure out a system to not forget about my favorites anymore.

I never really stopped using the Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint, but lately my love for it has grown even stronger because I've been mixing it with just about everything. My favorite thing to mix it with is the Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer - something I had completely forgotten about in my collection. I take a tiny pinprick amount of the SSE and mix with my usual amount of Skin Tint - about 8-10 drops. It gives the Skin Tint more coverage without compromising the glowiness or the skinlike finish. It's a new favorite base for sure.

When I haven't been using the Skin Tint + SSE combination, I've been all over the L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion. I love cushion foundations, especially on days when I'm in a rush or need to slap some makeup on at my desk, and this offering from L'Oreal is just as good as some more expensive ones I've tried. It's a light but buildable coverage, and it gives the skin such a beautiful glow. It doesn't go cakey or totally disappear on me throughout the day, either.

I went through a period of wearing no eyeshadow at all, but lately I've been getting back into it. I've been cracking out my MAC Cool Neutrals Palette (review) again, and I had forgotten how much I loved it. MAC eyeshadows used to get so much hype, and they're still some of my favorites. As much as I love my warm-toned eyeshadows, I think cool tones just suit me a little better. The collections of shades in this palette are stunning and are pretty much what I would have chosen had I made this palette myself. I love the two far right shades in both the first and second rows the most.

With the launch of Glossier Cloud Paint, I haven't been reaching for powder blushes much. But I uncovered the Burberry Light Glow Natural Blush in Earthy when I was organizing, and it's such a stunning shade that I haven't been able to resist using it almost every day again. It's such a good "no-blush" blush shade, as it gives more of a hint of definition rather than a rosey flush. Like blush, I haven't been giving my powder highlights much love either, until I was reminded of how beautiful the CoverFX Perfect Light Highlighting Powder in Moonlight is. It gives the skin such a subtle, lit-from-within sheen that it looks like a cream highlighter anyway. I love layering this over my Glossier Haloscope as well.

I've been pretty good about rotating my lip products and not forgetting about most of them, but getting the Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick in Adrienne recently has reminded me how much I love the classic Rouge Coco Shine in Boy. It's such a pretty pink-y nude shade - it looks like nothing special in the tube, but it's just so beautiful once applied. This is a wedding lipstick contender for sure.

Have you fallen back in love with any products lately?

Skincare Cocktails feat. Glossier's Supers

April 12, 2017 in Skincare

Maybe it's the chemist in me, but lately I've been all about mixing products. It started with makeup, but it's crept its way into my skincare routine, too. My favorite products to use while mixing are Glossier's Supers since they're quite simple formulas that go well with anything. I'm still just as in love with them as I was in my original review.

When I want a boost of hydration and glow, my go-to combination is the Kypris Antioxidant Dew mixed with the Glossier Super Bounce.* Super Bounce is my favorite of Glossier's three serums as it really plumps up and hydrates the skin using Hyaluronic Acid. I've been loving the Kypris Antioxidant Dew as well - it helps rid the skin of free radicals and get a healthy glow back. The two mix and work really well together, and I often can't reach for one without the other anymore.

When my skin is having a bit of a freakout, I always turn to Glossier Super Pure.* It helps soothe and calm the skin with Niacinamide and Zinc, and it really helps to clear up my breakouts. Since getting the Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel recently, I've been loving mixing the two together. The B-Hydra is quite cooling on the skin, so it really helps add to the calming and soothing abilities of Super Pure. Often my breakouts are caused by dehydration, so throwing in such a good, lightweight moisturizer is perfect, too.

Super Glow* is my go-to when my skin needs a little boost of energy, and while I love applying it directly to my skin with the dropper, lately I've been mixing it into my face creams. Since it's such a thin, watery formula, it works to thin out the cream and really help it sink into the skin. It's really helped me use the Sunday Riley CEO Protect + Repair Moisturizer* more - the cream is just a little heavy for my taste, but mixing in a little bit of Super Glow makes it the perfect consistency. Since they're both Vitamin C products, my skin is nice and peppy and ready for the day after applying this combo. (If you have sensitive skin, patch test this combination first! I haven't had any problems with it on my skin)

Do you ever mix together your skincare products? What are your favorite combinations?

The Glossier Supers are available separately for $28 each, or you can get all three in the Super Pack for $65 - that saves you $19! You can also shop through my Glossier Rep Link to get 10% off your first order, and you'll also be supporting me - I earn a small commission on orders through my link, which I use to invest back into this space in the form of products to review and equipment. Your support means the world to me!
