Milk Makeup Eye Pigments | Review + Swatches

March 08, 2017 in Makeup

If you've been reading my blog for awhile, you know my love for Milk Makeup runs deep. I've amassed a decent collection of products (and I've reviewed them all on the blog - mostly last summer), and I've fallen for pretty much all of them. Team Milk Makeup recently took notice of my Instagram and added me to their PR list (!!!!), which I'm so incredibly grateful for, and it feels pretty surreal. To celebrate the launch of new shades of their Eye Pigment, I was recently sent the most generous package containing all eleven shades.

T-B | All Nighter, Silent Disco, Jam Room, Sesh, Peep Show, Rave, Gig, Mermaid Parade, After Party, Rager, Hotel Lobby

The Milk Makeup Eye Pigments* are intensely-pigmented cream eyeshadows in easy-to-use squeeze tubes. They promise to be long-wearing and fast-drying to prevent creasing (which is always an issue on my oily lids). The pigmentation on these babies is crazy. If you watched my Instagram Stories when I first unboxed these last week, you may have seen me swatching them. One tiny pinprick of product produced the most beautifully intense swatch. The swatches pictured here were also created using a teeny tiny amount of product, and every shade blends out to a smooth, even color - not a speck of patchiness with any of them.

They have quite a mousse-y formula that spreads super easily, but the product doesn't really sheer out as you spread it - it just goes on and on. They dry rapidly so you have to work quickly to blend them out on the eyelids, but it's nothing too crazy. And once they set, they *set.* They stay put so well throughout the day on me, even without an eyeshadow primer (I have been using a concealer on my eyelids though - more on that later this week). The swatches on my arm took a lot of work to remove, but it hasn't been too strenuous of a job when the product is actually on my eyes.

These add such a beautiful foiled finish to the eyelids - my favorite shades so far have been After Party, the rose gold shade, and Hotel Lobby, the golden champagne. So far I've only used one shade at a time on my eyes, but they blend out super easily so I don't see why using two different shades would be a problem. They layer nicely to create a more intense look without caking or cracking. I can't wait to try out some of the bolder shades as a liner - how cool would that royal blue shade look?

I'm going to keep on playing with these and hopefully post some looks either on my Instagram or here on the blog, so stay tuned. If you have a particular look you'd like to see or a specific shade you'd like to see me use, please let me know! I'm feeling kind of inspired by the shades of Glossier Cloud Paint still, so I want to try my hand at some kind of gradient eye look using the purple, rose, and golden shades. And I wanted to say a *huge* thank you to Milk Makeup for sending me these because it's really helped me get out of my super minimal makeup rut - and thank you to all of you for supporting me and helping brands take notice!

Have you tried the Milk Makeup Eye Pigments?

New In: Lip Products

March 07, 2017 in Makeup

One thing I've been trying really hard to do this year is wear more lip products on a daily basis. I got into the habit of only wearing a clear lip balm (even if I was wearing other makeup), and I had so many lip products sitting around unloved. Now that I've been wearing more and more, I've been (unfortunately for my bank account) stocking up on more lip products, too.

Marc Jacobs Poutliner Longwear Lip Liner Pencil | I've raved about this formula for awhile now - the shade Prim(rose) has been my holy grail for almost two years. I always wished they would release new shades, and recently, they did. I picked up Slow Burn as soon as I saw the new shades had dropped - it's a mauvey-pink shade that's always a staple in my collection. It has the same beautiful formula that I've come to love - super creamy and comfortable and yet the most long-lasting lip pencil I've ever tried.

Bite Beauty Lip Pencils | The release of the new Bite Beauty Lip Pencils is what made me crash and burn with my spending ban. These pencils are beautifully creamy despite being a traditional wooden pencil. They glide onto the lips so easily and are really comfortable, and they still last a decent amount of time. You just have to be careful not to press too hard when applying because the pencil can crumble a bit. I got the shades 010, a rosy neutral shade that's a perfect "my lips but better" for me, 024, a more vibrant rose shade, and 036, a deeper rosy taupe shade. I love all three, but I've been getting the most use out of 010.

T-B | Marc Jacobs Slow Burn; Bite Beauty 010, 024, 036; NARS Intriguing, Do Me Baby, Lonely Heart; Sephora Brown is Back, Blooming Rose; Trestique Nammos Pink, Tuscan Wine

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils | Can you believe I had never tried the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils before? They've always been on my list to try, and when they dropped ten new shades, I ended up ordering three of them. Funny story - I had put the three shades I was most interested in in my online cart, and I guess I ordered them while half asleep because I woke up to a confirmation email and no recollection of ordering them. I ended up with the shades Intriguing, a rose pink that pulls ever-so-slightly peachy on me, Do Me Baby, a beautiful deep brown-y rose, and Lonely Heart, a deep chocolate brown. I love the formula of these so much - they feel super lightweight on the lips and stay put for such a long time. I think I need a couple neutral shades like Bahama and Walkyrie, and I've wanted Dragon Girl for years.

Sephora Collection Color Lip Last Lipsticks | I've been a fan of the Cream Lip Stains from Sephora Collection for such a long time that I decided I needed to try another lip product from the line. The Color Lip Last Lipsticks are super matte on the lips, but still comfortable. The finish actually reminds me a bit of the NARS Lip Pencils mentioned above. I got the shades Brown is Back (04), a rosy brown, and Blooming Rose (06), a neutral rose. They're super wearable shades, and the formula is perfect for every day. If you have a favorite Sephora Collection product let me know, I'd love to try more!

Trestique Matte Color & Shiny Balm Lip Crayons* | I was sent a beautiful package from Trestique for Valentine's Day, and I've been trialling the lip products they included ever since. The Matte Color & Shiny Balm Crayons are, as the name suggests, a matte lip pencil on one end and a sheer, shiny matching balm on the other. These are super comfortable on the lips, and I love layering the two ends of the crayon to create a fuller-looking lip. I just dab the shiny balm in the center of my lips to add a little bit of shine and dimension. I have the shades Nammos Pink and Tuscan Wine.

Have you tried any new lip products lately?

Glossier Cloud Paint is Here!

March 03, 2017 in Makeup

Maybe it's the promise of warm weather, or maybe I've subconsciously hopped on something that's already a trend, but I've really been getting back into blush lately. You all know my penchant for the "no blush-blush" look, but I've actually been wanting to wear more pops of color on my cheeks. Glossier was obviously way ahead of the game (as usual) and just dropped four beautiful gel-cream blush shades called Cloud Paint (10% off here) yesterday.

Top to Bottom | Beam, Puff, Dusk, Haze

The shades of Cloud Paint are inspired by New York City sunsets - a beautiful gradient of pinks and peaches and berries. Beam is a peachy coral shade that adds a warm glow. Puff is a cool pink that brightens the skin. Dusk is a warm brown nude that adds definition to the skin. Haze is a beautiful berry that gives a perfectly natural flush.

The shades come out of the tubes super pigmented, but they blend out to more of a sheer wash of color, so you never end up with something too dramatic right off the bat. They're super buildable, which is important for me because I like to gradually build up color on my cheeks. I tend to have some natural rosiness, so I like to take it slow as to not go overboard. You only need the tiniest dab of color for each cheek, so these cute little tubes will certainly last awhile.

The Cloud Paints are formulated with collagen, which retains water to visibly plump the skin, a smooth gel system for easy application, and blurring powder pigments, which ensure an even finish that's never streaky. They do almost feel cushion-y and smooth as you blend them onto the cheeks. They remind me of a formula you'd find inside a cushion blush. I've found they apply best with fingers - they blend so easily and seamlessly into the skin, and once blended they really do make it look like you're just blushing from within. Their texture lends itself well to mixing and layering with multiple shades, too - Dusk mixes well with all of the other shades because it's neutral. Mixing Haze and Puff will give you a slightly deeper pink shade. Dusk and Beam make a beautiful warm bronze glow on the skin. My favorite pairing is Dusk and Puff because it turns into the perfect neutral pink, which is my ultimate favorite blush shade.

I always love cream products, but sometimes, even on my dry skin, they're not the most long-lasting. But with these, perhaps because of those "blurring powders," they actually set down and become like a second skin. They still look dewy and fresh, but they don't feel tacky to the touch. They last all day long on me, and usually blush is one of the first things my face eats up during the day. Haze even has a slight staining effect on my pale skin - it washes off at the end of the day, but it just helps keep it on that much better.

I also think these are the perfect four shades for Glossier to start out with because each one corresponds to a Generation G Sheer Matte Lipstick Shade - I'll be posting pictures of the pairs on my Instagram soon. Beam and Cake make the perfect peachy pair, Puff and Like create a soft romantic pink look, Dusk and Leo give you all the 90s brown vibes, and Haze and Jam make it look like you were just running through a blueberry patch eating all the berries.

The Cloud Paints are $18 for one or $30 for 2. If you shop through my rep page, you can get 10% off your first order. As a disclaimer I do make a commission on orders through my page, so if that makes you uncomfortable you can just shop through the normal Glossier website!

Glossier Cloud Paint Cream Blushes were sent to me for consideration, but all opinions are my own. Please see my disclaimer for more information.
